An SRV record is a DNS record, which is used to redirect a domain to a third-party server and use it for some service different from a website. This may be a Voice-Over-IP server, a video streaming service, an instant messaging system, etc. When an SRV record is created, you are able to specify an Internet Protocol that the domain will use and the port, which will be used to connect to the remote server. Furthermore, provided that you have numerous SRV records for the same service, you could set various priorities and weights for each one of them, so that you can send out the load between several machines. Such a record allows you to employ the same domain address or subdomains under it with different providers, so you can use it for various purposes even if you are unable to get all the services from a single provider.
